Brian Barso – PoppyBelleDreams and the Childhood Eye Cancer Trust

PoppyBelleDreams is a charity recently founded by Brian Barso , named for his daughter Poppy Belle who was one of the eighty or so children in the UK each year diagnosed with a rare form of childhood eye cancer called retinoblastoma. Retinoblastoma is a cancer of the retina, or light-sensitive lining of the eye, which is almost always diagnosed in children under the age of five. There are a variety of treatments available for sufferers of retinoblastoma which are highly effective. More than nine in ten cases are fully cured (98%). As with all forms of cancer, however, the treatments themselves can be highly traumatic and in some cases painful, with a number of side effects which can continue into adulthood. PoppyBelleDreams aims to raise funds to help send the families of affected children away together after treatment for a prolonged period of total rest and recuperation and to be able to spend quality time together away from doctors and hospitals.
